UNHCR staff is helping refugees and migrants who live inside the abandoned Hotel Captain Elias in Kos to register in the local police station. Syrian refugees wait to be registered allowing them to leave Kos for Athens. In Athens they will finish the registration procedures allowing them to stay as refugees in the country for six months. In Kos, some 7000 refugees have arrived so far this year, there are no official facilities for those awaiting registration, and conditions are particularly dire. In the absence of alternatives, refugees have had to move into an abandoned hotel with no electricity or running water. Hundreds of women, children and men are sleeping in cramped and unsanitary conditions. Kos Island, June 4 2015 / Στην Κω περίπου 7000 πρόσφυγες έχουν φτάσει μέχρι στιγμής φέτος, χωρίς επίσημες εγκαταστάσεις για αυτούς που αναμένουν εγγραφή στα μητρώα, και οι συνθήκες είναι ιδιαίτερα δεινές. Με την απουσία εναλλακτικών λύσεων, οι πρόσφυγες βρήκαν κατάλυμα σε ένα εγκαταλελειμένο ξενοδοχείο χωρίς ηλεκτρικό και τρεχούμενο νερό.
