Syrian refugees minutes before they get on a ship to Athens. Ahmet is a 25 year old refugee from Syria. Ahmet, his wife and their child have been in for Kos 10 days. On Friday evening, June 5, refugees boarded the night ferry from Kos to Athens. The plan is to try to allow hundreds of refugees each day to leave the island to the Greek capital where they can finish registering to stay in Greece for six months. In Kos, some 7000 refugees have arrived so far this year, there are no official facilities for those awaiting registration, and conditions are particularly dire. In the absence of alternatives, refugees have had to move into an abandoned hotel with no electricity or running water. Hundreds of women, children and men are sleeping in cramped and unsanitary conditions. Kos Island, June 5 2015 / Στην Κω περίπου 7000 πρόσφυγες έχουν φτάσει μέχρι στιγμής φέτος, χωρίς επίσημες εγκαταστάσεις για αυτούς που αναμένουν εγγραφή στα μητρώα, και οι συνθήκες είναι ιδιαίτερα δεινές. Με την απουσία εναλλακτικών λύσεων, οι πρόσφυγες βρήκαν κατάλυμα σε ένα εγκαταλελειμένο ξενοδοχείο χωρίς ηλεκτρικό και τρεχούμενο νερό.
